Artist Bio:

Cherie Bright

I am Not an artist. I don’t care for the label as it feels limiting, as most people think of an artist as someone who paints a realistic style landscape or portrait. I am anything, but that.

I AM a Creative.

I create from my imagination and dreams and life. I tell stories, evoke feelings, invite you the viewer to participate. Come into my world. Feel. Do you remember? Do you dream? Want to join me? It is a journey. A lovely journey.

How I started? I don’t know. I have no formal training. I have read many books and visited many galleries/museums and listened to many artists talk about why and how they do things. I remember watching the guy on PBS with big hair talking about happy little brush strokes while he made tree branches. My mom exposed me to many galleries and museums as a child. I remember my mom telling me about various artists. Of course, I learned more about architecture, because that was her interest. Also, as a child we did many craft and art projects. I remember my mom always making sure my brush strokes were precise when we painted rooms in the house.

Then as an adult, I slowly meandered to the place I am today. First, I began painting furniture in wild colors. Then I started painting canvases with my children for each season. Then it seems that my sister and some of my friends, began inspiring me and encouraging me to reach out and create more. My sister brought me into the world of mail-art, which I love. For a stint there, this was where I created the most. Then, life and dark happened. And a break from my inner being. And now a rebirth so to speak.

And here I am creating. Sometimes paint, sometimes interactive art, sometimes Christmas Garages, big installations you can walk through, things found swirled together. I put no limit on my creations. If you have to put me in a genre, I would say Contemporary Folk, but put in that box, which I will happily crawl out of, deconstruct and remake into a spaceship of the mind.
